The Wulingyuan Scenic and Historic Interest Area in Hunan Province is a UNESCO World Heritage property dominated by more than 3,000 narrow quartz-sandstone pillars and peaks, many rising more than 200 meters. The earlier copy’s claim that these formations directly inspired the floating mountains in Avatar has been omitted because that popular association is difficult to document to the same standard as the site’s geology and World Heritage status.
